What is on offer?
Eligible Victorian households can get a rebate of up to $1,400 for solar PV, or an equivalent interest-free loan. This is on top of the federal STC discount, which applies to eligible solar systems nationally.
Who is eligible?
From 1 July 2026, the combined household income cap is $150,000 per year. Other conditions apply — for example around the property, previous rebates and the products used. Solar Victoria publishes the full criteria.
Before you sign: you need an eligibility number, and you must use a Solar Victoria authorised retailer. Don’t pay a deposit that assumes the rebate until eligibility is confirmed.
How the process works
- Get quotes from Solar Victoria authorised retailers.
- Check your eligibility and get an eligibility number (often with your chosen retailer).
- Sign the quote, with the rebate shown as a separate line.
- The system is installed, and the rebate is applied as set out by the program.
Common mistakes
- Signing with a retailer that isn’t authorised.
- Assuming eligibility without checking the income cap.
- Not checking whether the rebate and the STC discount are both shown clearly.
Other Victorian programs
Solar Homes also covers hot water, and the Victorian Energy Upgrades program offers discounts on heat pumps and reverse-cycle air conditioning. See our posts on Victorian Energy Upgrades and heat pump hot water rebates.
